Never Again is Now: Mobilizing the Next Generation through the Japanese American Incarceration Story

Please join us for a screening of ALTERNATIVE FACTS: THE LIES OF EXECUTIVE ORDER 9066, a documentary feature film by filmmaker Jon Osaki about the false information and political influences that led to the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans.Through post-film discussions, we hope to promote the emergence of new storytellers who will serve as the next generation of spokespeople for the Japanese American incarceration story.

ALTERNATIVE FACTS aims to raise awareness among younger generations about this dark chapter of American history and to empower them to share this story with accuracy and conviction. As former incarcerees continue to pass, it is crucial for new storytellers to emerge who know the facts about this unjust act and to speak out when other groups are subjected to similar hateful rhetoric and persecution that Japanese Americans once experienced.

Post-screening discussions will prompt the audience to find new, creative ways to share the Japanese American incarceration story with their peers. College-age attendees and young adults will be encouraged to initiate discussions about how they can organize ongoing activities on their campuses or in extracurricular groups to raise awareness among peers from diverse backgrounds.

Co-sponsored by the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation, the National Japanese American Historical Society, J-SEI, and the Japanese Community Youth Council. Co- presented by the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California, Nakayoshi Young Professionals.
